Case

ABOUT:

CRAFTED FROM CAST BRONZE AND RAW COWHIDE, THIS SUITCASE IS A UNIQUE DESIGN WHERE METAL IS A SACRIFICIAL ELEMENT.

THE BRONZE IS CHOSEN FOR ITS ABILITY TO VISIBLY WEAR AND ERODE OVER TIME, TELLING A STORY THROUGH ITS EVOLVING PATINA.

PAIRED WITH UNTREATED HIDE FROM A LOCAL SLAUGHTERHOUSE, THE PIECE EMPHASIZES THE MATERIALS' NATURAL PROGRESSION AND AGEING.

SKILLS:

3D PRINTING, MOLD MAKING, WAX CASTING, WOODWORKING, METAL CASTING, METAL MILLING,

Inspiration:

Distinct forms; erosion; earned patina; unique/strange.

Process:

A green and orange silk Dupioni lines the case’s interior;
the colours of the silk lining mirrors that of patinated bronze.

With special thanks to my fabulous model, Sophia Ponomarenko;

And immense gratitude to my insanely talented photographer, Red Hampton.

This project is relatively recent; check back here for updated photos once a patina has had more time to develop.
